Kena Muyaes design featuring twenty strands of red beads each adorned with a unique milagro charm.
Kena Muyaes is an aritist from Mexico City. Her family has been making milagro charms for many generations using original molds.
Milagros (also known as ex-votos) are tangible symbols that are offered to a favorite saint as a reminder of a particular need such as protection for a loved one or healing for an ailment. They are also offered to the saint in thanks for an answered prayer.
A milagro of an arm, for example, may be offered to heal a broken arm. A milagro in the shape of a little boy may be used to petition a saint to intercede on behalf of a sick child. A heart may be offered for the hope of love or for cardiac health.
The charms are composed of pewter with silver plating.
The necklace measures 18 inches long. Weight is 4.6 ounces.
